OpenAI CTO and Chief Researcher Officer Have Left
OpenAI CTO Mira Murati is leaving the company Bob McGrew, OpenAI’s chief research officer and Barret Zoph, VP of post training have also left.
Murati’s departure comes almost a year after a boardroom coup shook the AI startup and temporarily ousted CEO Sam Altman, leaving Murati as its temporary leader. In her six-year tenure, she was responsible for the launch of ChatGPT and OpenAI’s text-to-image generator, DALL-E.
It is unknown if there were further power struggles. It is unknown if this reflects upon the amount of progress toward GPT 5 or GPT Next.
VP of research Mark Chen is being promoted to OpenAI’s new SVP of research, and will lead the company’s research org in partnership with Jakub Pachocki as chief scientist.
